Blogosphere: A World of Possibilities

Blog, Noun: A Web site on which an individual or group of users record opinions, information, etc. on a regular basis.

The term, “blog”, was not coined until the 1990s, but the idea of it existed before the term.  And with the World Wide Web introduced in 1892, we can say that blogging is pretty much as old as the internet. Tailored News for Your Eyes Only

While the impact of social media on the distribution of news is increasing, other methods are far from being irrelevant. Aggravated news takes news articles from multiple associated press sources, and compiles them in one central location, bringing its readers convenience in not having to browse multiple news sites for different articles. From the top 15 news sites, Yahoo news ranks number 1, and Google news ranks number 4 in amount of traffic. Why specifically are these sites so successful? YouTube: TV on the Internet

Being the third ranked visited website on the internet, you tube has certainly defined itself as an integral part of many people’s lives. Complete with entertainment, education, information, etc., YouTube can be seen as a global TV for a global audience. 

YouTube’s global audience makes news distribution on its site much more effective. This efficiency is amplified when 99% of internet users now browse video sharing sites, as shown in the chart from Pew Research Center. Read the rest of this entry »

Reddit: A headline chosen by the masses

In effect, Reddit has become the newspaper of the internet. Reddit’s front page, a page with the most popular submissions resembles the front pages of a newspaper. There are major topics, politics, funny, science, technology, etc where submissions of a particular area are being displayed. Exploring social media on news distribution

News distribution has always been an integral part of everyone’s lives, staying with current events allows people to understand the world around them. For hundreds of years, the newspaper has dominated this part of people’s lives as it was the only source that provided constant, reliable information. However, as the internet slowly became more established traditional newspapers became more and more obsolete as many simply read their favorite newspapers on the web. With the popularization of digital media, not only do we see the decrease of newspaper’s presence, we also see many structural changes in the way news are being distributed.
